How to charge sales tax on commercial/residential painting business?

I need to invoice a customer for painting. In CT, do I need to charge sales tax on new construction and old construction?

My guess is you probably don’t.
You would pay sales tax on the stuff you buy, so you wouldn’t need to break it out to the customer. It should just be a flat charge for “parts.”
But it’s best to check with a state business organization or maybe even a tax adviser.
