How do I get my boss to pony up for my health insurance?

I took the job in the down economy just to keep from being unemployed. Im a salesmand and estimator for a commercial construction company. Now that I’ve been here 6 months and proven my worth I’ve asked for help with my H. Insurance and he’s resisitiing – any ideas?

    You can’t force your boss to provide health insurance. If it’s a small company, your bosses cost are “very” expensive. You could talk to your boss and ask him for a “bump” in your pay to help cover your insurance cost. Worth a shot.

    Your employer is under no legal obligation to provide health insurance, or assist with your payments for personal health insurance.

    It might have been judicious to make such a request during your salary review. If you didn’t, you likely put your boss on the spot, and he was forced to put company first and answer “no”. Remember in a down economy businesses suffer, as well as individuals, and busineses must also remember the bottom line to stay afloat.

    If this still remains a contentious issue you may want to canvas all your employment options…without quitting your current job, of course.
