I have experience with recreational diving and i am an engineering student at a school without any underwater programs… I love working with my hands and i have always been fascinated with underwater construction… I am looking for a school on the east coast and i was hoping someone might be able to point me in the direction of credible school or academy that will be worth my time and money.

First of all you have to become a regular Open Water Scuba Diver. WIth this under your belt you can progress through all of the levels of Scuba Diving up to an Scuba Diving Instructor. You are a professional in this Industry when you are an Instructor.
Commercial Scuba Diving is more advanced, and very Technical in terms of Diving, as well as the actual work you perform underwater, welding, building Oil Rigs, Repair Ships, Welding, etc. Try couple of the websites below.

To disagree with Kip, you do not need to progress to instructor to be a commercial diver. Instuctors learn to teach diving and how to spot issues students are having, and recreational instructors, by no means are qualified to do any type of commerical diving. Also, in many agencies Dive master is the level when you are professional, since you are working the boats at that point.
On to answer the OP’s question. Florida has a few that I know of. is one that operatates out of 40 fathoms grotto in the Ocala area…
Here is a link to some others
These ones are all known, and legit. It depends on what you want to do with your diving career that would point you to the best. I’d take the schools and contact them directly to speak with someone and get their literature.
Good luck!
